Preschool Story Time Begins Again

The fall session of story time will begin next Wednesday, August 30. As always, children may come at either 10:00 am or 1:00 pm. Miss Ellynne will be reading a back-to-school book, Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten by Joseph Slate. The craft project this time is a school bus "sewing card". Story time is for children ages 3- 6.

Book Talk Series




Encountering Asia, a three part book talk series sponsored by the Kansas Humanities Council will begin at 6:30pm on September 14 with a discussion of An Artist of the Floating World by Kazuo Ishiguro. This is the story of an aritist as an aging man, struggling through the aftermath of World War II in Japan. The other two books in the series are Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden on October 5 and The Chinese Gold Murders by Robert VanGlick on November 9. Memoirs of a Geisha is the most familiar of the three stories and was made into a movie in 2005. The Chinese Gold Murders is the first in a series of Sherlock Holmes-like mysteries about Judge Dee who takes a magisterial post in the remote Chinese district of Peng-lai and must immediately begins investigating the murder of his predecessor, the disapperance of his chief clerk and the disappearance of the new bride of a wealthy local shipowner. All three books will be available to be checked out to participants in the book group. Participants my come to one or all of the talks. Sign up is required.
